Set in the backdrop of 1960s Coney Island, Detective Sergeant Roscoe Brown and his partner, Detective Jimmy Walsh of the Homicide Unit, solve some of the strangest and most curious murder cases New York has ever seen. To the tourist, Coney Island is known as the “Playground of the World”: home of the Wonder Wheel, Steeplechase Park, and the famed Cyclone roller coaster. On the surface, Coney Island is all fun and games, but there’s the dark underbelly of evil, depravity, and murder that is the world of Detective Sergeant Roscoe Brown.
In the Case of the Devil’s Tooth, the Hound’s Tooth Gourmet Canine Cuisine owner, Louis Tooth Jr., Mr. Tooth feels that dogs are far superior to people. Over the years dealing with irresponsible dog owners, he developed a Sweeney Todd fixation towards those dog owners that he feels aren’t worth. He kills them and turns them into gourmet dog food.
The Case of the Which Doctor finds Doctor Maria Katerina Laveau, one of Coney Island’s top psychiatrists, turning from science to witchcraft. After her great, great, great, great grandmother, Marie Laveau, New Orleans French Quarter’s Vodou Queen of the 1880s, has passed down to Maria her entire collection of Voodoo recipes, spells, books, crystals, charms, and curios. When her dog was diagnosed with terminal cancer, Maria turned to Voodoo as a last resort. After her dog miraculously recovers, Maria turns to the Black Arts to help rid the city of certain undesirables.
In the Case of Our Lady of the Bone Yard, the remains of three young girls were found in the graveyard of Our Lady of Solace. The girls have been missing for over ten years. Father Michael David Byrnes, who was the head priest at the time, has since moved on to Rome and now works at the Vatican. Where he feels beyond the long arm of the law.
In the sordid world of Detective Sergeant Roscoe Brown, there are only three kinds of people: you’re either a witness, a suspect, or you’re the victim.
More Strange and Curious Cases of Roscoe Brown, Detective NYPD is a compilation of God, psychos, snakes, and always of course murder.
